The Aviation Industry In Australia The aviation industry in Australia has undergone massive change in the last six years. The formation of the CAA and FAC, deregulation of the domestic airline system, Qantas' purchase of Australian Airlines and Ansett's entry into the international market are just some of the changes that have reshaped the industry largely for the better, according to the Bureau of Industry Economics report. Aviation Industry Report Indicates Australia’s Performance Is Mixed
A recently released report by the Bureau of Industry Economics (Research Report 59 August 1994) comparing Australia’s aviation infrastructure with international practice indicates a mixed performance. Since 1991 the BIE has been undertaking a study to develop international performance indicators for Australia’s major infrastructure services. Aviation is the seventh industry to be studied, following previous BIE reports on electricity, road freight, telecommunications, the waterfront, and coastal shipping.
The report presents a range of indicators of performance of the Australian aviation industry relative to observed ‘world best practice’. The main focus is on airports and traffic services, and the performance of Australia’s domestic and international airlines. Of necessity the information is unfortunately several years old with most tables and graphs indicating analysis for the years 1992/93.
