The Indian Ministry of Defence is assessing the capabilities of various Indian shipyards with a view to a decision on the construction of a V/STOL carrier to replace the INS Vikrant in the mid 1980s. They are looking at a conventional carrier of 25,400/30,500 tonnes rather than one installed with ski jumps.

The US Department of Defense has approved a request from the Army for an increase in purchase of the Hughes AH-64A Apache, by 160 to a total of 675.
