On the Airbands
Mark Di Felice and Dean Smith from East Doncaster in Victoria are keen readers of “On the Airbands”. They found this item from the Moorabbin airwaves amusing, and believe you may enjoy it also. Mark and Dean were flying at the time themselves on a local trip near Moorabbin Airport. The day was pretty terrible with a forty knot (74kmh) wind from the north, and all operations were taking place from Runway 35 Left and 35 Right. As Mark and Dean held their light aircraft at the holding point and swapped from Ground to Tower frequency on 118.1 MHz, they overheard the following encounter between the Tower and Mike Foxtrot Yankee, a Piper Warrior.
TWR: “Mike Foxtrot Yankee, it’d be really nice if you could make it down” VH-MFY: “Look … we’re trying … really!”
