In my concluding remarks on the story of the construction of a composite kit Glasair by Jake and Barbara Jansen of Canberra, I expressed the hope that I would be able to con a ride when it was finished. Recently I had that pleasure. As the aircraft was still undergoing calibration trials, my ride was of necessity limited to some brief upper air work; hence my comments are on the observed performance rather than direct assessment.

I had already had a good look at the finished product at its rollout at Canberra Airport earlier in the year, and together with the other guests present was most impressed by the standard of workmanship throughout. The fit and finish is excellent, and this was confirmed by the aircraft receiving the Judges’ Award (runner up to overall concourse winning Lancair) and the Manufacturers’ Award for the best Glasair, at the ’94 Easter SAAA Mangalore convention.
