The First North American Rockwell B-1b Is Due To Be Rolled Out In Formal Ceremonies At Palmdale At North American Aircraft Operations On September 4 With A First Flight Scheduled For Early October. At Edwards Afb, B-1b No 2 Which Re-entered Flight Test During March 1983, Crashed On August 29 On Its 127th Flight. This Aircraft Had Been Due To Enter A Modification Phase This Month, To Enable It To Carry And Launch Alcms. The Initial B-1b Capable Of Launching Alcms, Will Be The 9th Production Aircraft Which Will Join The Test Programme In June 1986.
Two Lockheed Tristars Have Been Purchased From Pan Am For The Raf With An Option Placed On A Third Aircraft. The Tristars Will Be Placed Into The Tanker/transport Conversion Programme In September 1985.
