American General Stopsproduction:
American GeneralAircraft (AGAC), which acquired therights to the former Grumman American Tiger light aircraft in 1990, hasgone out of business. The company stopped production of the aircraft in January this year and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection two months later after building about 200 Tigers. Thirty were sold in 1993. AGAC owes $US400,000 in back rent and a local bank threatened to foreclose on a $US550,000 loan. AGAC is now talking to potential investors and is investigating restarting production at a location other than its previous Greenville, Mississippi plant. Another light aircraft design recently put back into production by new owners – the Commander 114B – had a mixed year in 1993. Of the 43 aircraft built during the year only 30 were sold of which 22 went to overseas dealers largely as demonstrators. Commander Aircraft lost $US3.8m in 1993 on sales of $USS.Im and the company’s Kuwaiti majority shareholder has increased its stake to 66% after having iajected $US!7.3m into it by the end of last year.
