Dr Michael Silva's Cessna A-37 Dragonfly is almost ready for flight, and has completed engine and taxi trials. Paperwork pending, it should have flown by the time these words are read and is to be painted in South Vietnamese Air Force colours. Dr Silva also owns a Cessna O-1 Bird Dog, providing an interesting comparison between the two military Cessna types

Warbirds

Jets, Jets and More Jets

With the first flight of the MiG-21UM, VH-XXI, on March 2 one would have thought that jet warbird activity would have slowed down for a while but such is not the case. At Bendigo, Victoria, former Royal New Zealand Air Force BAC 167 Strikemaster Mk88, NZ6372, is being overhauled by Goulding Airmotive for the new owner, Dr John Pearce. The aircraft last flew in January 1993 and as a result requires little more than reassembly and an overhaul, not a rebuild, to get it back in the air. Ray Goulding, who was an engineering officer with the RAAF, has stated that it was good to be working on an (ex) air force jet once again. Moved from Sydney to Bendigo in November, the machine was selected on the basis of having the lowest airframe hours. No registration has been selected as yet. The ejection seat will not be armed.

Meanwhile, at Bankstown, another ex RNZAF Strikemaster is being overhauled, this time by Winrye Aviation. This aircraft, NZ6362, was registered to International Air Parts (IAP) of Sydney on September 9 last year, as VH-AGI. Once back in the air the machine will be delivered to its new owner Neville Hyder, of Busselton, WA. In addition to the above, two other IAP Strikemasters are also reported to have new owners. Sydney MiG watchers report that the two disassembled MiG-15UTis (SBLIM-2) outside Winrye Aviation, serial IA06036 and 712277, were removed in early May from where they had been standing for some years. Both are reported as owned by Hockey Treloar.
