An Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 767-200ER set a record on its delivery flight (May 31/June 1), making the longest-ever flight by a twin-engined commercial airliner. Flying from Dulles International to Addis Ababa, the aircraft covered 6,510 nm (12,082 km) in 13 hours and 17 minutes with 58 people on board. This was the first 767-200ER delivered at the optional high gross weight of 156,630 kg (345,000 lb).

In other news, Singapore Airlines’ subsidiary, Tradewinds, began services between Singapore and Pulau Tioman using a Shorts Skyvan, while the Boeing 757 was recertificated by the UK CAA for a higher gross weight of 108,960 kg (240,000 lb). This increase allowed Monarch Airlines’ strengthened 757s to operate with more capacity.
