This head on shot of the Falcon 2000 shows to good effect how the fuselage tapers sharply behind the passenger cabin to minimise the drag of the two relatively large engines. This area ruling of the rear fuselage is the major aerodynamic achievement of the Falcon 2000. (Dassault)

Update -Dassault Falcon 2000

In simple terms the Falcon 2000 is a twin engine development of Dassault’s successful long range Falcon 900. But there is more to this aircraft than just that.

Any new corporate jet project is a high risk investment, especially when the Falcon 2000 is competing with the Canadair Challenger, Citation X and Hawker 1000. However Dassault is quietly confident that the 2000’s transcontinental range, new engines and low fuel consumption, competitive direct operating costs and roomy “midlarge size” cabin are the features it needs for the new twinjet to be a commercial success. Furthermore, by the time it is certificated late this year, most of the world’s major economies should be experiencing steady growth and consequently it should be able to take advantage of an increasing demand for business jets.

The Falcon 2000 is a direct descendant from the Falcon 900 trijet and shares the 900’s wing and forward fuselage, but there are a number of both obvious and unnoticeable major differences. From the start the Falcon 2000 has been designed to have a 3000nm (5560km) transcontinental range, which is significantly shorter than the long legged intercontinental range 900, which removed the need for the redundancy of three engines. The fuselage houses less fuel (with an associated benefit with a simpler fuel system, including the deletion of the centre wing tank) and less passengers and baggage, while the two new engines offer considerably more fuel efficiency than those on competing aircraft.
