The Swedish Air Force is to re-engine 115 of its Saab SK 60 twin engined trainers to extend their service We to 2010. In a deal recently signed with Williams Rolls and Saab, conversions of the trainers will allow a first fight in 1995, with the last aircraft to be returned to air force service in 1998. The majority of the conversion work is to be carried out at the workshops of the Air Force Flight Academy. Already the SK 60 has been in service as a trainer, liaison and light attack jet for three decades, the re-engined aircraft wil have better takeoff, climb and single engine performance and better fuel efficiency. The 1900lb thrus! FJ44 currently powers the CitationJet, and has also been selected for Cessna's CitationJet-based JPATS trainer which should fy next year. (Paul Merritt)
