Though the Regional Airlines are still finding Sydney Airport to be a major barrier in their growth it appears that the emergence of Bankstown as a hub for regional operators has fallen by the wayside. During the year Eastern Pacific, Monarch, Tamair and Western NSW Airlines all operated flights to and from Bankstown.
With Eastern Pacific, Monarch and Western NSW all RPT operations and Tamair being awarded traffic rights into Kingsford-Smith there is presently no regional operations from Bankstown.
From October 31 the regional airlines of the Qantas Group -Eastern, Southern and Sunstate adopted the QF designator for their flights. The same month it was announced that the aircraft of Eastern, Southern and Sunstate were to be painted in the full colours of the parent airline and that the dreadful milk bottle scheme that was first mooted was to be dropped. With an annual uplift approaching 1,000,000 passengers the staff of Eastern, Southern and Sunstate will hopefully now feel that they are once again part of a major airline.
During the period November 1 ’92 thru October 31 ’93 the following changes have taken place: AIR FACILITIES commenced operations during November ’92 over the Albury to Canberra route in competition with Western NSW Airlines.
