Traffic Soars in Record Sept Quarter:
Continuing the boom that has been triggered by deregulation, Australa’s domestic airlines again broke several traffic records in the recently completed September quarter.
During the quarter the airlines carried 4. 7 million passengers, an all time record. This enabled them to set another record with 15. 4m passengers being carried in the year ending 30 September. September quarter traffic was up 38% on the same quarter last year with an additional 1. 3m people being uplifted during the period. For the year ended 30 September 1991, the increase in passenger numbers was 1. 2m, or 8. 6%, on the previous record of 14. 2m carried in 1988 when the Bicentennial and Expo were at their peak.
