 Australian Unveils New Airline:

Australian Airlines has launched a new airline to operate mainly Queensland/northern Australia services.

The new carrier, Australian Airlink, will operate three BAe 146-100 jets on coastal routes between Brisbane and Darwin (refer Traffic), and on services between Caims, Gove and central Australia. It will effectively increase by at least 50% the number of flights on the Brisbane/Rockhampton and Brisbane/Mackay routes, starting on 3 August. Despite the increase in frequency the actual capacity available on the sectors will be reduced, effectively increasing load factors and eventual yield. On Brisbane/ Mackay, for instance, the new arrangement will provide 21 services a week against just 13 using larger 737 equipment.
