 Aerospatiale and British Aerospace Agree to Develop Concorde Successor:

The basis of the team that developed the original Concorde SST, Aerospatiale and British Aerospace, signed an historic agreement on May 9 that will see them initiating the formal process of developing an eventual ‘son of Concorde”.

The proposed SST would seat roughly double the number of passengers as does Concorde, would cruise at Mach 2. 4 and have a max payload range of at least 6,000nm, effectively twice that of Concorde. The new aircraft would build upon existing technologies to produce an airliner that would be environmentally acceptable in noise and emission standards whilst being sufficiently fuel efficient to be both viable in supersonic and high subsonic overland transits.
