Air New Zealand Looks at LAN Chile
Air New Zealand is bidding for a share in the Chilean carrier, Lan Chile. The New Zealand company has been accepted by the Chilean Government as a bidder in partnership with the Chilean Luksic Group. The joint bid is for a 51% share in Lan Chile.
Air New Zealand, itself only recently privatised, would if the bid succeeds become a 25% shareholder in Lan Chile and (it could be argued) Qantas with a 19. 9% shareholding in Air New Zealand would acquire a 5% stake in the South American airline. Luksic Group is involved with some 40 companies ranging from tourism and transport to telecommunications and soft drinks.
