Airbus Delivers 500th Aircraft, Designates Its Latest Model the A321:

On the 20th anniversary of the official founding of the original Airbus Industrie consortium at the 1969 Paris Salon, Al have delivered their 500th jetliner and formally designated the A320 Stretch the A321-100.

ILFC and Egyptair have already declared their intention to acquire an initial batch of A3218 (refer full Update elsewhere in this issue) while Lufthansa is expected to shortly announce an order sufficiently large to meet the requirement of 40 firm orders to formally launch the $US500m project. Development of the A321 will largely parallel that of the A330/ 340 with the first of the stretched A320 variants entering service in 1993/94,
