Canadair Challenger Makes Local Sales Breakthrough:

Canadair have notched up the first sale of a Model 601 Challenger to Australian interests. The new 601 is scheduled for delivery this August and will be operated on behalf of the Westfield retail group. It is believed the present Westfield BAe 125-700 is being purchased by GJ Coles & Sons.

This is actually the second Challenger ordered for use in Australia. In 1982 Alan Bond provisionally ordered a model 600 but had to opt out of the deal following a downturn in business. The 601 is a vastly improved version of the original Model 600 and features drag-reducing winglets and more powerful and fuel-efficient GE CF34 turbofans providing long range and a higher altitude cruise profile.
