GA Prepares to Fight Cost Recovery

General Aviation Fights Back

General Aviation organisations have formed a new umbrella organisation to fight the Federal Government’s new so-called ‘cost recovery’ measures.

There is no way this industry-whose fortunes are so closely tied to the depressed rural sector – can possibly pay twice the current level of government charges,” said the chairman of the new umbrella organisation, Mr Dick Smith. He said the Government was using recommendations of the 1984 Bosch report on aviation cost recovery to increase the level of cost recovery but ignoring the re- port’s call for major reductions in Departmental costs before this was done.

• A ‘survival’ meeting of aviation organisations in Sydney on March 22 sent the following resolution to the Prime Minister, Mr Hawke, and the Minister for Aviation, Mr Morris, stating
• All sectors of the general aviation industry have decided to launch a nationwide campaign to oppose plans by the federal government to raise additional revenue under the guise of aviation cost recovery.

The general aviation industry’s economic position makes it impossible to find the funds to pay increased charges at a time of rural recession and a declining industry revenue base.
