Since our readers last heard of David, he has progressed with his flying and now holds a Commercial Licence and undertakes the occasional charter for a local operator.

The voice of Frank came as a welcome interruption to the somewhat tedious routine of small-town domesticity into which David believed he had fallen of late.

Earlier hopes for a quick advancement into a full-time career in aviation had been dashed since David’s marriage to Bev and the arrival, 4 years ago, of the first of his three children. Bev, like many spouses of pilots, was happier to enjoy the stability and certain income of a relatively junior Shire official in West Wyalong than to trust her and the children’s futures to the uncertainties of a life in General Aviation. David appreciated this view, but still looked forward to the occasional job from Frank.
