• A non-stop flight record for Qantas aircraft was made by Boeing 707 VH-EAF “City of Townsville” when it flew 7,380 statute miles non-stop from Sydney to Santiago, Chile on September 13. Piloted by Captain A. Terrell the aircraft took 12 1/4 hours for the journey. The return flight was made with refuelling. stops at Easter Island and Tahiti.

• Government approval has been given for the construction of an additional 24 N22 and N24 Nomad aircraft, bringing approved construction to 95 Nomads.
