Interview with Peter Morris

Following the 1984 federal elections, Mr Peter Morris took over from Kim Beazley as Minister for Aviation, adding this to his existing portfolio of Minister for Transport. The Government has launched several major initiatives in aviation, including a review of the two airline policies, fundamental changes in cost recovery and the establishment of a national airport authority. John Spiers spoke to Mr Morris about developments in his portfolio.

JS: Your expressed philosophy on transport, in a nutshell, is that every form of transport should perform the task for which it is economically, socially and technically best suited. Like all fine, simple ideals, it is obviously a damn sight easier said that done. Perhaps you would like to start by talking generally about what needs to be done in the areas in which you are concentrating, and where some are obviously moving better than others?
