ATR42 Breaks Through In Australia

Air Queensland’s recent order for four ATR42s with an additional four on options is seen both here and abroad as a significant endorsement of this advanced European aircraft.

The ATR consortium were a late runner in the supercommuter race. Saab-Fairchild, de Havilland Canada, Shorts and Embraer were all well ahead in their development programmes when ATR first cut metal on their slightly larger aircraft. This did not worry the consortium too much as in the meantime international recession had dissolved many of the potential orders that would have normally been placed over the past three years.
