Australian Aviation Proudly Presents Its Third Annual Listing of the Third-Level Airlines of Australia, Compiled by Robert Bell

A number of significant mergers, takeovers, re-allocation of routes, and new equipment arrivals have led to an exciting year for Commuter Airlines since this Directory was updated last September.

The rapid growth of Air Queensland and Jet Charter Airlines, Skywest and Sunstate have contributed to the overall picture of an industry caught in an up-draught. While there is no question that the long drought has had an appreciable effect on bookings for many Reg. 203 operators, it is still considered that the Third Level Airlines are straight-and-level, with their nose occasionally rotating! More damage is being suffered by both Reg. 203 and G. A. operators stemming from the sometimes appalling ATC delays being inflicted, situations that make it very difficult to keep cost accountants happy, despite high loadfactors being experienced. One NSW operator tells me he is so incensed by ATC treatment, he will be glad to see the matter raised in the December issue of this magazine.
