Comment – The New DoTA
In our December 1981 issue, Ian Perry wrote the “Comment” column based on what was needed for future civil aviation administration in Australia. The restructuring of the Department in April 1982 has prompted these further views.
The views expressed on page 39 of the December 1981 issue of this magazine appear to have been prophetic insofar as later developments in the restructuring of the Department of Transport are concerned.
What was said then was “Let us have administrators for surface and air transportation, with common service functions of management services and finance. Let the government, through the agency of the Public Service Board ensure the administrator (air transportation) is responsible for all the divisions in the Department dealing with purely civil aviation matters. Incorporate under that administrator a senior executive responsible for both international and domestic aviation policy”.
