Comment – Time For Action
As we enter the nineteen eighties the message of tomorrow is to be clearly heard around the globe.
The message is that the now militarily powerful Soviet Union is no longer going to sit back and merely support Third World guerilla movements from afar. Indeed the message for this decade is one of direct confrontation between the USSR and the United States.
It appears that it took the blatant invasion of Afghanistan by Soviet combat divisions to finally make Jimmy Carter change his evangelical philosophy for one of the hardened realities. The US President is coming through the Iranian hostage drama and the Afghanistan crisis with flying colours and now that he realises that his domestic stocks are soaring through a new “get tough” image, he is not about to revert to his previous image of Christian innocence.
