Australia’s Henry Millicer has every reason to qualify as one of this nation’s most disenchanted people. The fact that he is anything but this, is far more a tribute to his unquenchable enthusiasm for the light aeroplane than to any recognition our country has given this distinguished Polish-born aeronautical engineer.

To win a major international design competition against all comers so early in his Australian aviation career, to see his aircraft put into quantity production and win worldwide acclaim, only to have the whole enterprise languish and sold out of the country through public indifference and hostility from foreign vested interests, must have been anguish enough.

But on top of this to suffer the supreme irony of seeing a militarized version of his brainchild supplied back to Australia as a trainer for the RAAF at three times its original price must have been almost more than the human spirit can bear.
