WING LETS AND "SIGMA" WING SYSTEM GIVE NEW WESTWIND ALTITUDE. RANGE AND PAYLOAD ADVANTAGES: - Though Westwind 2, the new IAI business jet resembles previous Westwind aircraft it incorporates a much-researched, high-efficiency airfoil design that has been named the "Sigma" wing system. This major advance of flight technology was derived through extensive wind tunnel testing and three dimensional computer analysis at the flight research facilities of the aircraft's manufacturer, and combines a highly efficient wing profl'le with aerodynamic winglets to achieve significant reductions of induced drag. In keeping with the Westwind tradition of interior elegance and refined appointments, the new Westwind 2 will be the most spacious yet in the series. with notable improvements in seated headroom made possible by its unique, elliptical cabin shape. The shape also allows a flat rather than "trenched" cabin floor, an airline-style lavatory with flush toilet and convenient placement of the overhead passenger service units. The Westwind 2s midwing design puts all passenger seats and side windows ahead of the wing and engines for a quieter ride and better view of the scenery below. Two exterior-accessed baggage compartments provide spacious cargo capacity while eliminating the discomfort and inconvenience of dragging suitcases and other cargo through the passenger compartment when loading or unloading. The Westwind 2 will come factory-equipped with a full complement of sophisticated avionics and other flight systems that most users consider essential for go-anywhere operations. Standard on the aircraft will be thrust reversers, a liftdump system, fully modulated enti-skid brakes, wide profile tyres, single-point fueling, strobe lights, dual batteries, digital weather radar, radio altimeter, and a complete set of Collins "Pro Line" solid state avionics. Additionally, the aircraft will be equipped and certificated with Collins' APS-80, a remarkable autopilot-flight control system that smooths each flight and helps reduce aircrew workload, especially during the critical approach phase.
