A Revolution in the Air
One of the greatest problems facing aviation in the com ing years will be noise. Even small two-seat aircraft of the diminutive Cessna 150 breed can arouse resentment and protest from resident groups at the mere suggestion of the future establishment of a local park.
With this in mind the English firm of Dowty Rotol in initiated an engineering study in the early ’70 to develop quieter aircraft, largely through a re-think of basic engine propeller design. With Dowty’s accumulated experience in design and construction of variable pitch fans for both SNECMA and Rolls Royce they decided to press ahead with a similar application to the standard light to medium aircraft propeller.
And so the Ducted Propulsor was born.
