Aviation Safety Professional of the Year

This award recognises a professional who has made an outstanding contribution to safety.

It is open to any individual at any career level and any age who has demonstrated a commitment to safety practice including cabin crew, ground support services, air traffic control, trainers, air marshals, management, operations, or any other individuals within an aviation-centric business are encouraged to participate.

Professionals across all areas of the aviation industry with a focus on safety, performance and education are encouraged to participate.

Engineering Professional of the Year

This award recognises the engineer or technician that has delivered outstanding work for their community, organisation or institution while supporting the strengthening of Australia’s aviation industry through their active participation.

All engineering professionals working in the industry across areas such as aerodynamics, design, aircraft maintenance, navigation systems, avionics, software, mechanical, structural, military, and other aviation-related disciplines are encouraged to participate.

Executive of the Year

This award recognises an aviation executive that has most effectively shaped their business’s success while supporting the strengthening of Australia’s aviation capabilities and its recovery through the pandemic. All industry executives who hold a senior position such as CEO, CFO, COO, managing director, executive director or equivalent are encouraged to apply.

Female Aviation Leader of the Year

This award recognises a female leader in aviation that has most effectively shaped their business’s success while supporting the strengthening, recovery, diversity and growth of Australia’s aviation industry and its capabilities.

It is open to all female aviation professionals who hold a management/leadership position in a business, organisation or institution that supports aviation and the wider aviation industry. Female aviation leaders working across all areas of the aviation industry, including airlines, consultancies, airports, industry associations, technology and software, defence business, manufacturers, SMEs, tourism, training, university or research institutions.

Professional Pilot of the Year

This award recognises a pilot operating in a professional capacity that has delivered outstanding work for their organisation or institution while supporting the strengthening of Australia’s aviation industry, airworthiness and safety capabilities through actions carried out by the pilot in the course of their duties. this could include the results of reacting to an adverse situation or demonstration of exceptional skill in carrying out their duties as pilots.

It is open to any professional pilot conducting flight operations for an Australian business at any career level and at any age who has demonstrated a commitment to excelling in the aviation industry, with their work central to their professional success and or the performance or development of their organisation.

Recreational Pilot of the Year

This award recognises the recreational pilot that has delivered outstanding work for their community, organisation or institution while supporting the strengthening of Australia’s aviation industry through active participation.

It is open to any recreational pilot at any career level and at any age who has demonstrated a commitment to excelling in the aviation industry. It considers the activities, strategies and actions of the pilot to create a point of difference to positively contribute to the development of their organisation or community and has demonstrated the potential for rapid career progression.

Rising Star

This award recognises the aviation professional who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to building a successful career in the aviation industry. It considers the activities, strategies and actions to create a point of difference to positively contribute to the development of their specific industry discipline and has demonstrated the potential for rapid career progression.

It is open to any individual within the first three years of their career in the aviation industry. Applicants will have demonstrated a commitment to excelling professionally in the aviation industry, be on a rapid career trajectory, and have made a positive contribution to the industry.

RPAS Pilot of the Year

This award recognises the operator of a remotely piloted aircraft that has delivered outstanding work for their organisation or institution while supporting the strengthening and advancement of Australia’s aviation and UAS industry.

It is open to any operator of remotely piloted aircraft at any career level and at any age who has demonstrated a commitment to excelling in the aviation industry and is on a rapid career trajectory, with their work central to the commercial success, performance or development of their organisation.

Young Pilot of the Year

This award recognises the young pilot who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to building a successful career as a pilot. It considers the activities, strategies and actions to create a point of difference to positively contribute to the development of their specific industry discipline and has demonstrated the potential for rapid career progression.

All junior, undergraduate and postgraduate individuals from all disciplines working with or participating in the Australian aviation industry are encouraged to participate.

Aerial Services Business of the Year

This award recognises the aerial services business that has most effectively capitalised on market opportunities and supported the strengthening and rebuilding of Australia’s aviation industry through its participation and community engagement.

This award is open to all aviation aerial services businesses including but not limited to the below sectors. This award excludes EMS operators, which will be judged separately.

Airline of the Year - Domestic

This award recognises the organisation that has most effectively capitalised on market opportunities while supporting the strengthening of Australia’s passenger and freight movements across the nation.

It includes all airlines and charter services operating flights within Australia. All airlines and charter services are encouraged to participate irrespective of size, revenue or operational location/s.

Airline of the Year - International

This award recognises the organisation that has most effectively capitalised on market opportunities while supporting the strengthening of Australia’s passenger movements.

It includes all airlines operating regular, scheduled passenger services to and from Australia. All airlines are encouraged to participate irrespective of size, revenue or operational location/s.

Airport of the Year

This award recognises the airport or aerodrome that has most effectively capitalised on market opportunities while supporting the strengthening of Australia’s commercial and/or regional aviation industry.

It includes all airports and aerodromes, operating across small regional, large regional, metropolitan, major and capital city areas, focusing on freight, military, training, services or passenger movements.

Aviation Support Business of the Year

This award recognises the aviation support business that has most effectively capitalised on market opportunities and supported the strengthening and rebuilding of Australia’s aviation industry.

It includes all aviation businesses that enable flight operations, no matter their specialisation, operating across domains such as catering, ground handling, planning, engineering and business consulting, financial services, legal services, insurance, tourism, airspace management, fuelling, leasing, brokerage, parts supply and consumables, hangar hire, scheduled or non-scheduled support services and all other support-related disciplines.

Best Innovation of the Year

This award recognises the business that has most effectively capitalised on market opportunities while supporting the strengthening of Australia’s commercial and/or regional aviation industry.

All innovations will be considered, whether related to safety, alternative energy, biometric check-ins, electric aircraft, passport, cloud technologies, predictive maintenance, digitisation, contactless service, onboard product innovation, or app development.

Brand or Marketing Campaign of the Year

This award recognises the business that has the most effective brand or marketing campaign in the Australian aviation industry. Submissions will be judged on creativity, brand image, execution, and marketing position.

It is open to all businesses within the aviation industry, no matter the specialisation, that have an objective of passenger transport, supplying goods, infrastructure, airport services, airframe building or technology development, improving or maintaining aircraft, aircraft systems, airworthiness, safety, parts and structures. This also includes salvage and replacement services for aviation-related businesses.

Defence Support Business of the Year

Finalists will have most effectively capitalised on market opportunities and driven demonstrable growth while supporting the strengthening of Australia’s defence and air capability through participation in the industry.

This award is open to defence-related businesses contributing to airlift and combat capabilities, such as Satcom and telecommunications, manufacturing, combat systems, maintenance, transport, training and all other air-related defence disciplines.

EMS Business of the Year

This award recognises the EMS business that has done exceptional work over the assessment period. It includes all aerial EMS operators across fixed, rotary or remotely piloted disciplines.

All aerial service operators are encouraged to participate irrespective of size, revenue or geographic location/s.

Flight Training Business of the Year

This award recognises the flight training business that has most effectively capitalised on market opportunities and supported the strengthening and rebuilding of Australia’s aviation industry through their training and support services.

This award is open to training-related businesses contributing to the development of skilled professionals and pilots, operating across domains such as military, aerobatics, recreational aviation, commercial aviation, rotary-wing, special mission and UAS/remote operations.

Industry Association of the Year

Finalists will have most effectively capitalised on market opportunities and driven demonstrable growth while supporting the strengthening of Australia’s aviation economy through its participation.

It includes all industry associations/not-for-profits supporting the aviation industry.

Manufacturing or Maintenance Business of the Year

This award recognises the business that has most effectively capitalised on market opportunities and driven demonstrable industry support through delivering manufacturing, maintenance, repair and/or overhaul (MRO) services to the Australian aviation industry.

It is open to all businesses within the aviation industry, no matter the specialisation, that have an objective of supplying goods, infrastructure, airframe or technology, and improving or maintaining aircraft, aircraft systems, airworthiness, safety, parts and structures. This also includes salvage and replacement services for aviation-related businesses.

Remotely Piloted Aircraft Business of the Year

This award recognises the remotely piloted aircraft business that has most effectively capitalised on market opportunities and supported the strengthening of Australia’s unmanned aerial systems and drone capabilities.

Eligibility of this award is open to businesses using remotely piloted aircraft to conduct surveillance, freight, real estate, aeromedical, para-public aviation, planning, training, operations, agriculture, mining, construction, entertainment, defence, special mission or community services.

Rotary-wing Business of the Year

This award recognises the business that has most effectively capitalised on market opportunities and supported the strengthening of Australia’s rotary-wing capabilities.

It includes all rotary-wing businesses, no matter their specialisation, operating across domains such as agricultural spraying, heli-mustering, emergency services, search and rescue, surveillance, aeromedical, surveying and mapping, thermal imaging, aerial firefighting, flight planning and logistics, tourism, aerial photography and broadcasting, aerial advertising, training, winching, charter, heli-lift, and all other related disciplines.

Safety Innovator of the Year

This award recognises the business that has driven demonstrable, innovative growth or transformation in supporting safe practices within Australia’s aviation industry.

All innovation in relation to safety will be considered, whether related to operator safety, visitor/passenger safety, cyber safety, airworthiness, airspace safety management, risk management, training, workplace safety, safety excellence, or any other style of aviation- related safety innovation.

Start-up of the Year

This award recognises the aviation start-up that has most effectively capitalised on new opportunities and supported the strengthening and rebuilding of Australia’s aviation industry through its participation.

It includes all aviation start-ups, no matter the specialisation, operating across domains such as commercial aviation, business aviation, general aviation, airports, support services, drones, fixed-wing operations, rotary-wing operations, training and simulation, avionics, engineering, parts supply, maintenance, aeromedical, gear, technology, planning, defence and all other aviation-related disciplines.

Sustainability Initiative of the Year

This award recognises the business that has most effectively demonstrated sustainable practice through products, services and culture, all while strengthening Australia’s aviation capabilities, its advancement, and its recovery.

Finalists have most effectively considered environmental, social and economic equity; demonstrated or introduced responsible use of natural resources; integrated or innovated practices that enhance the lives of present and future generations, through improvements in areas like operations, manufacturing, consumption, consumer behaviours, investments, innovation and technological and institutional changes.

Training and Mentorship Program of the Year

This award recognises the aviation business that has most effectively capitalised on market opportunities and provided support for new industry participants or aviation professionals transitioning into new roles.

It is open to all businesses within the aviation industry, no matter the specialisation, that have an objective of supporting the strengthening of Australia’s aviation workforce through the development of more skilled professionals.
