says:I would appreciate you getting some experts to comment on the following: 1. what is the risk to crews of heavy aerial fighting aircraft in operating in extreme conditions compared to the benefits? Are we fighting fires the best ways? 2. Wild fires are far more prevalent in the USA and Canada – therefore their crews are far more practiced. How would local crews maintain competency to operate aerial firefighting equipment sufficient for the extremely hazardous conditions in which they operate? It’s hard enough for RPT pilots to keep competent on B737’s!
IF there is a belief that aerial firefighting capacity is the way to fight bushfires in a country as large as Australia then it has to be national. But are there better solutions (non-aviation) such as reducing fire load – low level hazard reduction burning; not allowing people to build in high risk areas.
