Emirates has now resumed flights from Perth and Brisbane for the first time since March, following the UAE’s decision to lift transit restrictions in Dubai airport.

Flight EK420 departed Dubai at 3:00am last Thursday, arriving in Perth at 5:50pm. From 18 June, the outbound service EK421 will depart Perth at 10:20pm, arriving in Dubai at 5:20am the following day.

It means the airline, which is also operating out of Sydney and Melbourne, is now offering passenger services to 29 destinations as of Monday including Bahrain, Manchester, Zurich, Vienna, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Dublin, New York JFK, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Jakarta, Taipei and Hong Kong.

The move will significantly increase options for Australians wishing to travel home, who a couple of months ago were largely limited to either government-funded repatriations or services from Qatar Airways. Full Australian flight details are at the bottom of the page.

Earlier this month, Australian Aviation reported how Australian and New Zealand passengers who fly with Singapore Airlines will be banned from transferring onwards with rivals at Changi Airport.

It came days after Singapore Airlines began to resume flights to Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane for the first time since national border closures.

The caveat will reduce options for travellers and deny them the opportunity to then fly with airlines operating out of the airport such as Qatar, British Airways, Cathay Pacific or Etihad.

I don’t understand it. With our borders effectively closed until some time in 2021, who will be flying to give these airlines a profit?
