Virgin Australia has had a particularly turbulent couple of days, from initially demanding a federal government bail-out, to state government hostility over the location of its HQ, to collapsing into voluntary administration.

Tune in to this week’s Australian Aviation to hear host Phil Tarrant and senior writer Adam Thorn discuss the overall sentiment around Virgin Australia right now, why the Morrison government was so reluctant to bail it out, and what we know about the 10 suitors that are looking at recapitalising the airline.

Phil and Adam also reflect on the latest news around Rex, Qantas and Air New Zealand’s responses to the COVID-19 crisis.

  • Rather sad that there has been no mention of Skywest as a victim of the Virgin fall into administration? This is déjà-vu for so many great people at Skywest who were taken through the same journey as part of the Ansett collapse in 2001.

    says:

No need for Australian taxpayers to bail out foreign owned airlines. Of concern to thousands of travellers is the issue of prepaid airfares for flights in 2020.

    says:

Virgin all of a sudden have backers and buyers!
They were trying to fleece the Australian tax payers out of billions!
If anyone cant see the farce that is then really they are as gulliable as can be!

  • Craig

    says:

I believe the new owners should use Virgin for capital cities and let Tiger fly all other routes including New Zealand and also coddeshare with each other
