Sydney Airport opens charity Runway Run to the public

While late arriving passengers looking to make their flight need not apply, Sydney Airport’s charity run will give runners and aviation enthusiasts alike the opportunity to tread on the same piece of pavement on which aircraft take off and land.

The airport is holding its second annual Runway Run on November 5 and this year’s 500-metre sprint on one of Sydney’s operational runways has been opened to the public for the first time.

The $100 registration fee will raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities, Sydney Airport said in a statement. Only 100 tickets will be sold.

Sydney Airport chief executive Kerrrie Mather said runners of all abilities were invited to participate.

“It’s a great opportunity to not only have some fun, but also raise funds for a worthy cause as part of the Sydney Airport Community Christmas Giving Appeal,” Mather said.

“The appeal unites the airport community and travelling public each year in the six weeks leading up to Christmas and we’re delighted to extend it to the wider community through the Runway Run.

“With only 100 tickets available, register now to avoid missing out on your chance to enjoy a unique experience on the airfield and be crowned the Sydney Airport Runway Run champion for 2016.”

Participants will be picked up at Blu Emu Car Park, Sydney Airport and then bussed to the appropriate runway.

So at want point will they be scanned prior to going airside?

500m What an insult…. thats not a runway run…. more like a publicity stunt….. really not worth it…..
How about you fix your dam capacity problem and fix your traffic flow into the domestic terminal!

YYZ has had a real runway run every year for many years – 5K the full length of one runway and return, 2K half way and with a few thousand participants. Also a charity event.
