Adelaide Airport will have a new on-site hotel by the end of 2018 as part of efforts to add new facilities for passengers and create more business opportunities for firms based at the airport.
The 165-room Atura hotel will be built next to the passenger terminal, at a cost of about $50 million, Adelaide Airport said in a statement on Saturday.
ASX-listed group Event Hospitality and Entertainment will begin construction of the seven-storey hotel – with direct access by a walkway to the airport check-in area – in April 2017.
The company plans to open the hotel in late 2018, under an agreement which finally completes Adelaide Airport Ltd’s search for a developer and operator of a proposed hotel as part of its 30-year, $2 billion vision for the airport.
The Atura-branded hotel will include meeting rooms, a business centre as well as restaurant and bar.
AAL managing director Mark Young said the hotel project “kicks off our long-term vision to create an easy, seamless connection between our aeronautical activities and our planned Airport Business District”.
“Adelaide Airport has grown substantially in recent years, and many of our passengers have indicated they would welcome the convenience of a close hotel to enable catching early morning flights after meetings or conferences,” Young said in a statement.
“More than 8,700 people are directly employed on the airport and many business people fly to Adelaide to conduct business solely at the airport.
“We expect demand to grow as passenger numbers continue to increase and we develop our Airport Business District infrastructure.”
South Australian Tourism Minister Leon Bignell noted international airline seats at Adelaide Airport had grown by 66 per cent over the past five years.
Event Hospitality and Entertainment group managing director David Seargeant said: “The unique design for our Adelaide Airport property will seamlessly connect the terminal and hotel with the plaza space.”

says:Is there really a need for a hotel at the airport given it is only a few minutes away from city centre? Adelaide has excellent conference facilities and accommodation already. Most business people would probably prefer to stay in city where restaurants are.

says:Definately ‘YES! Flying out early even staying in the city doesnt work for me. Late taxis,after a extra early rise to be at airport for international departures is never easy. I am looking for ward to staying here.:)

says:It seems to me to put a fast mono rail type transport system to centre of Adelaide than a new hotel at the airport would.be more suitable. Stay overs are rare at adelaide and interstate flights regular to all states. From your facsimilie photo the road access may be more difficult for arrivals.
