Qantas and Jet Airways to expand codeshare partnership

written by australianaviation.com.au | September 7, 2016

Jet Airways codeshares with Qantas on Australia-India routes.

Qantas has lodged an application with Australia’s International Air Services Commission (IASC) to expand its codeshare partnership with Jet Airways on Australia-India routes.

The application stated Jet Airways planned to place its 9W airline code on Qantas’s flights between Sydney and Bangkok, while the Australian carrier would add its QF code on Jet’s services from Bangkok to Mumbai and Delhi.

The codesharing arrangement was slated to begin on October 15.

Qantas said in a separate statement it would also codeshare on Jet’s Singapore-Chennai and Hong Kong-New Delhi flights from October 1.

Currently, Qantas had codeshares on Jet’s flights from Singapore to Mumbai and Delhi, as well as the Indian carrier’s Hong Kong-Mumbai offering. Meanwhile, Jet codeshares on Qantas’s services from Australia to Singapore.

“The expanded codeshare arrangement provides customers with greater choice, increasing the number of codeshare services on the two carriers from 28 to 77 return services a week,” Qantas said in a statement.

Until November 15, Jet passengers from Australia to India or Europe transiting in Singapore were eligible to receive a SGD$40 voucher at Changi for use at the airport’s restaurants, shops or pay-in lounges.

Simple. It was unprofitable at the then cost base. They may fly to India again once the B789 are established in the fleet.

Surely a Sydney Mumbai London route would be worth a look. And stop calling me Shirley.

QF used to fly SYD-PER-BOM-LHR……been there, flew that!
Became unprofitable, so it was dropped.

Cheaper to now have codeshare with 9W, servicing subcontinent cities’, & linked to QF Asian ‘hubs’ of SIN, & BKK.

    Good move, Mr Joyce!
