Jetgo prepares to ferry Embraer ERJ-140LR to Australia

Jetgo’s first Embraer ERJ-140LR regional jet has broken cover in the United States ahead of its upcoming ferry flight to Australia.

The first of two 44-seat ERJ-140LRs, seen above at Kingman Airport in Arizona, was about to undergo a final maintenance check before the long journey to Australia at the end of September.

The trip was expected to take about 10 days.

The aircraft previously operated under US registration N297SK for Republic Airways Holdings, which provides regional services to the major US network carriers. It has been repainted into Jetgo livery and will have Australian registration VH-ZJG when it enters service in this country.

Currently, Jetgo flies three 37-seat ERJ-135LRs on its regular public transport (RPT) network comprising nine destinations across three states along Australia’s east coast.

  • Great to see a regional carrier getting some up to date jet aircraft. I hope the seating is not too tight that you have your knees near your ears.

    PB Air in Thailand tried these small jets a few years ago.

    Found them too expensive to run.

    The ERJ140 was designed for the US union agreements to be under 50 seats. Basically a shortened 145. Economics not so good. Everything depends on the price paid or the lease terms if Jetgo can make money. At least in the US the 135,140 and 145 haven common type rating so flexible for crew scheduling.

    Very good to see Jetgo servicing the niche markets effectively created by East West but then dumped by the larger airlines once they absorbed East West and many of the other smaller operators. Also good to see creative thinking in the city pairs being linked. Great job!!
