Tigerair Australia has named one of its Airbus A320s after Melbourne Storm captain Cameron Smith to celebrate the extension of the airline’s sponsorship deal with the National Rugby League club for five more years.

Smith, who in addition to leading the Storm is also a Queensland and Australian representative and considered one of the greatest players rugby league has ever produced, was on hand at Melbourne Airport for the official unveiling on Tuesday.

The A320, VH-XUH, also featured a decal of the Melbourne Storm club logo on the fuselage.

The low-cost carrier has been a Storm sponsor for the past three years and Tigerair chief executive Rob Sharp said the airline and the club were a “great fit”.

“Tigerair Australia and Melbourne Storm are both proudly Victorian and we look forward to a stronger and even more successful partnership with the Storm over the coming five years,” Sharp said in a statement.

I hope Tigerair can live up the standards Cameron and the Melbourne Storm have. A great team, all round.
