Regional carrier Airnorth has commenced regular public transport (RPT) service from Brisbane West Wellcamp to Melbourne Tullamarine.

Flight TL130 departed Wellcamp just after 0715 on Monday morning, touching down at Melbourne about two hours later, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.

The Embraer E170 VH-ANT, which is configured with 76 seats, was on the ground at Melbourne for about an hour before returning as TL131.

Great to see more variety in RPT and more use of Wellcamp. I love that the water canon salute isn’t by fire trucks, but construction vehicles. With Wellcamp’s background, I’d say that’s fitting.

Great to see an inland Regional Queensland town serviced by Jet Aircraft.
    Well done Airnorth and Wellcamp.
How about a Toowoomba / Townsville / Cairns Jet service ?

Mac Carter TSV/CNS is too short for a jet to do economically. Although further than SYD/CBR.

SYD/CBR is very high yield business & public servants.

surprised Alliance haven’t made a move into their backyard.

Wellcamp to where ? by F70 or F100 jet

I agree a Townsville – Toowoomba service would be well supported, 3 times a week or so. The Q400 TSV – CNS is sufficient, I use it regularly, a jet service would only save about5 minutes anyway so not sure it’s worth it. Air North already do international to Timor Leste so perhaps they could be a candidate for a Townsville – Port Morssby service they are talking about.

Alliance tried RPT not long after the AN went bankrupt on the BNE-TSV sectors.

They quickly worked out that their strengths lie in Charter, although now they offer some RPT seats on their charter flights.

Twmba Wellcamp – Townsville would seem to be a good service and could be run as an extension to Darwin – Townsville. Would attract tourist and Defence traffic at the very least. Always surprised that Rex hasn’t jumped on the opportunity to connect their Southern and Northern networks through Newcastle – Toowoomba, which remains un-serviced. It would connect the networks whilst avoiding head to head competition on the mainline trunk routes between NSW and QLD.

Congratulations to Airnorth for launching their new services to Wellcamp. I would strongly recommend Brisbane and Gold Coast to Toowoomba services as well as Sunshine Coast :). Welcome to Toowoomba Airnorth!!!!!!

Off topic, but why are there two control towers?

  • Adrian P

    says:

The taller of the two is the new control tower.

The shorter one is redundant, would make an interesting visitor facility for Air Services.
