Emirates adds second daily Perth A380 flight

Emirates will operate the Airbus A380 on its second of two daily services to Perth from August 1, replacing the 777-300ER that currently operates the EK424/EK425 rotation.

The Qantas alliance partner commenced A380 services to Perth last May operating EK420/EK421. The second daily A380 service – EK424 departs Dubai at 10.10am, arriving in Perth at 12.50am the next day, EK425 departs Perth at 6.00am, arriving in Dubai at 1pm same day – will allow Emirates to offer 14,000 seats a week between Dubai and Perth.

“Perth is one of the 39 A380 destinations on the Emirates network globally, including 13 east-bound destinations,” Thierry Antinori, the airline’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer said in a statement.

“With more A380s on order, we look forward to continue utilising this highly popular aircraft to serve customer and capacity demand on key routes.”

Australia is Emirates’ third largest destination for the A380. From August when the second Perth service is upgauged, seven of Emirates’ 11 daily flights from Dubai to Australia will be operated by the A380 (the A380 will operate a second daily service to Melbourne starts in March).

    You have to ask why Emirates can make money doing this but Qantas couldn’t.

    Just wait…..they will eventually continue one of these services to Auckland. (I know they are thinking about it, but needs NZ government approval).

    EK – Low cost base, highly efficient operation from DXB, reasonably good product and lots of connecting destinations with good connections.

    QF – the opposite.

    Would be great to see QF fly the route though.

    No surprise as this was always part of the EK Strategic plan under Sir Tim’s shrewd leadership. Won’t be long before we have thrice daily again to PER with all being A380’s. One rotation may be shared with Auckland or maybe Adelaide!

    Interesting to see how SQ and QR respond. A350’s or A380’s? But when? EY going to 787-9 mid year.

    ANA and/or China Easrern next to PER?

    PER is in for surge of Int’l traffic as many indicators suggest. Watch!

    QF- Lowered cost base, fairly efficient hub at SYD, now have a reasonably good product, eg compare Qantas long haul business class seats, to Emirates 777 business!

    But Qantas can never compete with Emirates geographical advantage, re destinations and connections!!

    Also unlike our Government and Airport Owners, UAE Government and Airports value their Airlines, and assist them, unlike here,were the Airlines and their passengers are viewed as cash cows!!

  • And down with the Australian carriers the Australian Bureaucrats did say!

    As the world softens into a deflationary period, they need to increase flights everywhere, even if its too dominate the market……. after all they do have another 45 A380’s to be delivered!

    Wonder if Pilots will actually start getting paid what they are worth…… or even better, that and basings anywhere other than the Middle East!!!?

    QF direct PER-EUROPE…. 787…. overfly Middle East and get the market back to where it should be! (I used the PER-SIN-CDG all the time way back then…).

    I’m a Sydney person but an Australian first & always so why is it international operations for Qantas seem to revolve around SYD/MEL & to a lesser extent BRS? QF have all the local groundstaff they could need in PER/ADL for international operational staff so how can they not justify regular A330 flight from Adelaide to their popular routes to SIN & HKG? As for Perth how can Emirates operate daily 2 x A380’s to Dubai daily & Qantas cant offer anything? Aren’t Emirates & Qantas codeshare partners so why can’t a QFA380 fly PER-DBX-LHR several times a week if not daily instead of Emirates supplying all the metal? Obviously the traffic is there & upon checking fares there’s little difference than the price from the east coast so the required revenue is present therefore it it makes no sense the national carrier is gifting traffic to overseas airlines in their own backyard. The CEO not being an Aussie maybe makes any sense of him not being responsible to our country a possible reason? It just beggars belief he’s decided to give away the rights to competitors from over a third of the country. I still don’t think the man possesses any great business acumen. For those thinking the CEO has been brilliant in turning around QF international just remind yourself with the massively lower cost for international visitors of inbound fares via the 40% lower $A plus the huge reduction in fuel costs much of which has not been reflect in fares available to Australians at least. Skillful CEO? Hmmmm. Lucky CEO? Most definitely.

    Qantas does not have enough metal to do anything like this. How much money is made out of code sharing?
    Virgin seem to do ok being a virtual airline code sharing with all its partners.

    Yes Emirates can do it but not Qantas.It`s so simple Dubai is Emirates hub and Emirates got exclusive traffic rights there.Perth to Dubai is only feed flight for another 160 plus destinations over the rest of world.Most of those passengers don`t stay in Dubai but transfer on other Emirates flights to final destination.that`s advantage of Emirates what Qantas never can match.Same is with SIA in Singapore or Catay Pacific in Hong Kong.For some reason some people simply can not understand that.For example Qantas got 5th freedom on passengers in China for Europe however hasn`t get it approved in Europe so is useless.
    And with Emirates Airline…Sir Tim Clark is doing amazing job however with this job he`s honored by creator of Emirates Airline Ahmed Bin Saed al Maktoum.Emirates Airline is created by royal family in UAE same as city of Dubai.Advantage of Emirates is not free fuel as people think neither free airplanes but mind and vision behind of it. They get nothing for free but they got nearly unlimited chances to run business as no one else on world. (Etihad and Qatar trying to lesser extend). Emirates is proof what can one achieve with a lot of money and great vision.

    Qantas an East Coast airline???? I thought it was (and is) a Sydney airline.
