Virgin Australia, Jetstar and Air New Zealand have cancelled services to and from Bali as the ash cloud from the Mount Raung volcano again causes flight disruptions.
Virgin has cancelled all its flights to and from Bali scheduled for Wednesday, while Jetstar has cancelled four services and delayed two.
“The latest advice from our team of meteorologists and the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre is that conditions are not suitable for operations into and out of Denpasar Airport today,” Virgin said in a statement on Wednesday.
“We have been advised that Mt Raung continues to erupt and winds are blowing in an unfavourable direction, and are forecast to continue to do so for the rest of the day.
Jetstar cancelled its Tuesday evening flights from the popular Indonesian tourist destination to Australia and its Wednesday morning departure from Melbourne to Bali, JQ43, and the reciprocal JQ44.
“We want to give ourselves the best chance to operate this evening, and will assess information from the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC) this afternoon before ruling out flights scheduled to depart later today,” Jetstar said in a statement on Wednesday.
“We’ll continue to monitor the movement of the ash cloud with the latest information from the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre and will resume flying as soon as it is safe to do so.”
“Our team will continue to monitor the ash cloud with the VAAC around the clock, and resume flying as soon as it is safe to do so. Subject to clear flying conditions, we will operate additional services between Bali and Australia to get customers moving to their destination as soon as possible.”
And Air NZ said its NZ245 departure from Auckland to Bali has been delayed until 1100 local time Thursday, with the return service NZ246 scheduled to take off from Bali at 1755.
The revised schedule was subject to favourable wind conditions, Air NZ said in Wednesday.

says:Noelene go to a site called wind finder.com it gives you the winds in Bali a week in advance, does not look good, flying up next Thursday for a wedding, I think I have more chance getting there by swimming. John

says:I’m not sure you have looked at wind forcast correctly. Westerly winds blew the ash towards Bali. The winds have now shifted back to the South east which should push the ash away over ths weekend.
