Nicole Kidman fronts Etihad’s latest marketing campaign

Etihad Airways has signed up Australian actor Nicole Kidman for its new marketing effort.

Kidman was unveiled as the face of the airline’s latest global television, print and digital advertising campaign in Abu Dhabi on March 14.

“Nicole Kidman, as a globally respected artist, was the perfect voice and face for our story, and embodies worldly sophistication, intelligence, originality, and elegance – values which form the foundations of the Etihad brand,” Etihad chief commercial officer Peter Baumgartner said in a statement.

Kidman is the latest Australian to join Etihad’s global marketing effort. The airline already counts chef Luke Nguyen, entertainer Dannii Minogue and retired cricketer Shane Warne from this country as “brand ambassadors” of its Etihad Guest frequent flyer program.

Etihad said the concept for the new campaign was created by M&C Saatchi Australia, while the soundtrack for the advertising spot was composed by a Sydney-based company Song Zu and performed by the Sydney Scoring Orchestra.

    I guess she will be giving up her first class suite on Qantas’ A380 between LA and Syd for whatever Virgin offers on the B77W.

    I’m a little disappointed in Nic for this. Not necessarily because it’s not Qantas (she’ll still fly them to LA), but because she is supporting a carrier that, as we are now finding out, it being funded with the deepest of pockets. Thousands of hardworking executives and employees in non subsidised airlines in Australia, and around the world, have been working tirelessly to compete in this brutally competitive industry. Meanwhile these subsidised carriers get shiny new aircraft and the latest product (and A list celebs) and act as if it’s somehow due to competence that other airlines can’t keep up. The general public doesn’t know about these subsidies, let alone carrier freedom rights, and will support them because they have good fares and a good product.

    What this does however is distort the market and place other non-subsidised carriers at a disadvantage. It then means these carriers, such as Qantas, have to cut back on local engineering staff etc – an area where Australia has, I feel, developed a world-wide reputation for excellence.

    Why pe0ple being so hard and small-hearted on her and an Airline that service to Australia?

    Tell me why QANTAS pay so much for so long to John Travolta? Even give him an historical B707. What attribute does he represent QANTAS that can not be found from an Aussie in this country? Do you guys ever said “DISAPPOINTED” to QANTAS ?

    Second, it is not a public transport. The photo that she is sitting in “The Residence”, all that consider her private space for the trip. Same for you, if you pay for the ticket you can put your foot there.

    For an airline that fly to the country, pick a successful figure from that country and make their global campaign, only means they respect that market, seeing it as very important.

    Qantas should fight fire with fire!!!! They should get a popular personality from Abu Dhabi to star in one of their……………..oh wait?
