Cairns has joined the list of ports to say goodbye to Qantas Boeing 767-300ER services.

The last Qantas 767 flight from Cairns left the North Queensland tourist spot on Tuesday October 21 when QF925 operated by VH-OGI departed for Sydney at 1206 local time.

Cairns-based ARFF fire trucks gave VH-OGI, which was delivered to Qantas in August 1991, a water-cannon salute ahead of the takeoff.

There are currently eight 767s – seven passenger and one freighter aircraft – in the Qantas fleet.

Qantas is conducting an informal farewell tour for the 767, with Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Melbourne and Sydney to be given the opportunity to say goodbye to the twin-aisle workhorse before the entire fleet is retired by the end of 2014.

Qantas ended its 767 international service in September, when the airline switched its Sydney-Honolulu route to the Airbus A330.

The final Qantas 767 flight is scheduled as QF452 from Melbourne to Sydney on December 27.

Dose anyone know dates when Qantas is conducting it’s an informal farewell tour for the 767, with Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Melbourne and Sydney to be given the opportunity to say goodbye to 767?

Indeed, It will be sad to see the 767 go. It had the best domestic economy seat layout bar none. That includes all the new types coming on-line.

More pencil thin 73 flights, shame..

    says:

yeh its sad but they are fuel hungry so they aren’t that cost efficient but why refurbish them and then retire them like a yr or 2 later?

I like the old 767 and flew on both qantas and ansett planes on two domestic flights. Will miss them but the airbus a 330 worthy replacement

Sad to see it go . But qantas is embracing for the future.

Yes sad to see the B767-338s depart, but if the B787s had been on time, the B767s would have been gone long ago. Shame PER isn’t on list for farewell flights. I do know there is some time in November a B767 flt from BNE
to PER and then PER to CBR on same day. That will be the last B767 out of PER. I’ve done some miles in the good old B767, and always enjoyed them. Didn’t get to see any of the “refurbished” one, shame. Good Bye old friend.
