Boeing’s 787-9 test aircraft N789FT (ZB002) has transited Cairns on its return to the US after hot weather testing in Alice Springs last week.

N789FT touched down in Cairns shortly before 3.30pm on Monday and after clearing customs and taking on more fuel, departed 90 minutes later bound for Honolulu, arriving there nine hours later.

The accompanying images of N787FT transiting Cairns were taken by Australian Aviation contributor Dave Parer.

Nice to see Boeing sending their “new” aircraft for testing in Australia. I can remember the Boeing 777-300 on test
coming through Perth. I think last week Perth might have been a good test for the aircraft due to our very high temps. !! Although much drier weather than the humidity they get in Cairns.

Was the Jetstar 787-800 VH-VKB still broken down in cairns? That would have been good for the marketing boys.

I hope the battery failure has been fixed. I hope the 787-9 is faultless. this one has to be perfect since air n.Z. will get this particular jet

The 787 should’ve come to Melbourne it’s been 40oC+ all week!

Boeing put the Lithium ion battery in a fireproof box, the only problem with that is that the weight saving over a ni-cad battery is negligible.

I’m hearing that a JAL aircraft had a battery fire on Jan 14th. After all that work too.

Reports from locals, said VH-VKB had gear problems & was getting robbed of parts to service VH-VKA. It was there for over a week.

Not sure how accurate this is, but I saw VKB flying to Indonesia last night on Flightradar24
