CASA has granted Jetstar approval to add the 787 to its AOC, clearing the aircraft to begin passenger services with the airline.

The approval follows training two CASA flying operations inspectors and two airworthiness inspectors on the 787, a review of safety issues related to the introduction into service of the new type, a demonstration of Jetstar’s 787 emergency evacuation procedures and a series of proving flights to demonstrate the airline’s 787 operational procedures.

“It is not often we introduce new large aircraft types into Australian aviation so it takes a lot of work by the airline and by CASA,” CASA’s Director of Aviation Safety John McCormick said.

Jetstar plans to being flying the 787 on limited domestic services between Melbourne and the Gold Coast beginning November 13, followed by international services between Melbourne and Denpasar, Bali beginning on December 18.

I have a domestic flight on the Jetstar 787 booked. I have been following the development of this aircraft over the last decade and i can’t wait to fly on the first Australian registered example.

Ooh, excitement has set in – I too have a domestic flight booked on the aircraft.

Shame that they’re only flying it from the greatest city in Australia to the most awful one. *cough*

First flight is from MEL to OOL on 13 Nov. @ Damien – does that mean that the Gold Coast is ‘the most aweful’ city in Australia? Well, that is a bit harsh. I am from Sydney and will always love Sydney, but now I live on the GC and think that the lifestyle here is awesome. And, our footy team did ok this year too – including the Brownlow Medal!

Damien I quite enjoy visiting Melbourne. The weather is always fantastic and accommodation and food prices reasonable. Well maybe for 2-3 weeks of the 52 anyway.

Have already flown on this wonderful bird – 2 flights Internationally from SCL – LIM – LAX. Wonderful to fly. Only issue was 3rd time lucky with computer issues making the flight delay of over 2 hrs! The power, the engines and almost silent. Large windows and comfortable seat / bed. WOW! impressed. Wish I could do it again!!
