Boeing’s new 787 Dreamliner will visit Australia next week as Qantas celebrates its 91st birthday.

A 787-8 development aircraft will touch down in Sydney on November 15. It will stay for the Flying Kangaroo’s birthday celebrations the following day before flying to Melbourne on the 17th. The Australia visit will follow a three-day stop in Auckland.

The Qantas Group has 50 787s on order with an option to buy 50 more, and expects to begin taking delivery in late 2012 or early 2013. Air New Zealand has ordered eight of the aircraft.

The first Dreamliner entered service last month with Japan’s All Nippon Airways.

I think will be a QANTAS base. Unsure if public could get near or peer through the fence.

  • As far s I am aware, only media will get access. We will be attending on Wed in Sydney. Photos will be at http://www.iapg.net.au and in our Facebook page (International Aviation Photography Group).

I am led to believe the aircraft will not be accessible by the public.

However it will be positioned such that it but will be visiable from the public road which runs along side the QF Jet Base, namely Qantas Drive, Mascot.

Qantas staff will be viewing the aircraft at the maintenance base in Melbourne from midday. Viewing slots are available until about 8.00pm on Thursday, so not sure if it will fly out that night or on Friday.
