Virgin Aust adds more seats for Qantas grounding

written by australianaviation.com.au | October 30, 2011
(Virgin Australia is adding 3000 additional seats to its network on October 31)

Virgin Australia says it will add an additional 3000 seats on services between Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra and Mackay on October 31. The extra seats are in addition to ramped up services announced last week.

Virgin also said it was working with Etihad to operate a 300-seat A340-600 on return services between Sydney and Melbourne on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The aircraft usually arrives in Sydney from Abu Dhabi early each morning, and departs mid afternoon, so would otherwise be idle in Sydney during the day.

The airline says it is also looking at operating Singapore Airlines aircraft on domestic services, and is in discussions with Singapore, Delta Air Line, Air New Zealand and Etihad about these airlines possibly operating some Virgin Australia international services and thus freeing up Virgin 777s and 737s for additional domestic services.
