Qantas has announced that it will deploy the A380 on the Melbourne-Singapore-London route from January 18 shortly after it takes delivery of its sixth of the type.

Initially, one to two QF9/10 services per week will be operated by the A380, rising to regular twice weekly services from March 29. From that date, the airline will also operate A380 services daily on Sydney-Los Angeles, five times weekly on Sydney-Singapore-London and three times weekly on Melbourne-Los Angeles.

Qantas took delivery of its fifth A380, VH-OQE Lawrence Hargrave, on December 21 with the sixth aircraft, VH-OQF Charles Kingsford-Smith (pictured here in Hamburg, Germany, as F-WWSA), due a few days after. Both will enter service during January.

“More than 500,000 people have now flown on Qantas A380 services, and it remains extremely popular with our customers,” CEO Alan Joyce said in a December 22 statement.
