The inaugural twice-weekly Fiji Airways Nadi-Adelaide service touched down on Friday night.

Operated by Boeing 737-800 DQ-FJN, flight FJ961 departed Nadi at 4:40pm local time on Friday, landing in Adelaide a little over six hours later at 8:07pm local time. The return flight FJ960 departed Adelaide at 10:20pm local, landing back in Nadi at 5:36am Saturday.

“This is an exciting day for Fiji Airways as it marks our expansion and growth in our most significant market, after Fiji,” Andre Viljoen, Fiji Airways CEO and MD said in a statement.

“We are thrilled to now have a connection with South Australia, and along with getting more Fijians to experience that wonderful part of Australia – and having easier accessibility to friends and family there – we are looking forward to welcoming more South Australians to our beautiful home,”

Adelaide becomes Fiji Airways’ fourth Australian destination – it currently flies twice daily from Sydney, daily from Brisbane and five times a week from Melbourne – and its first new Australian route in 10 years.

so you can connect ADL/NAN/USA mainland on FJ one day a week, but not on the way back unless you call 16 hours in NAN connecting !!!

They should try Canberra now that they are welcoming international flights. More money there than in Adelaide I imagine and with the temperatures they’ve been experiencing this past week I would think many of them might like to fly direct to Fiji.

Why not try Canberra- Auckland- Nadi and tap into trans tasman market. Sure it would be longer than Canberra – Nadi direct but may be more successful. Would still be quicker and more popular than current option via Sydney where terminal change adds hours. Fiji airways could set up a nice secondary hub in Auckland with connections to Australian secondary ports!

a welcome move.a lot of us are over the usual BALI OR PHUKET OR PENANG for a tropical holiday so the choice of something new and above all direct from Adelaide to Fiji even it’s only twice a week has to be better than nothing.I don’t agree with the schedules over so will stick with QANTAS TO SYDNEY AND CONNECTING TO THE QF391 operated by Fiji Airways services on the A330 even if it means leaving Adelaide at 6:40am with say a three hour wait in Sydney but coming home works out well or maybe do it the other way around with the direct going over but come home via Sydney depending on circumstances.
