Airservices’ will have a new director on the board following the appointment of John McGee.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development said McGee, who was previously managing director of the Bank of New York Australia Pty Ltd and a solicitor in Australia and the UK, had been appointed for a three-year term.

“Mr McGee’s financial, legal and governance experience makes him well suited to serve on the board as it continues to invest in critical aviation safety infrastructure and services,” Truss said in a statement on Thursday.

In addition to his stint at Bank of New York Australia, McGee has also previously been a non-executive director on the boards of the Private Health Insurance Administrative Council, Westpac Funds Management and Delhi Petroleum, according to a biography provided by Minister Truss’ office.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Prime Minister also reappointed current Airservices directors Samantha Betzien and Annette Kimmitt for a further two years to give “continuity to the organisation”.

Truss said the three appointments strengthened the Airservices board’s legal and financial expertise, and would ensure it was well placed to oversee the capital development works, including the development of the OneSky air traffic management system in the years ahead.

“Airservices has outlined an extensive capital expenditure programme of more than $1 billion over the next five years, providing critical air traffic infrastructure and technology to enhance the safety, efficiency and capacity of the Australian air traffic network,” Truss said.

“These appointments will help ensure the board continues to have the right mix of skills to effectively oversee Airservices delivery of this major investment programme.”
