Antonov spotted at Alice Springs Airport

Aviation enthusiasts at Alice Springs have been treated to the sight of a Russian Antonov 74-200 at the city’s airport since December 22.

It was understood that the UT Air cargo aircraft arrived in Australia on December 20 on a diplomatic mission from Kuala Lumpur, first landing in Broome and then onwards to Canberra.

On December 22, the aircraft, registration RA-74013, left Canberra bound for Jakarta via Alice Springs and Broome.

However, it made it only as far as Alice Springs Airport. The aircraft was believed to waiting for spare parts.

    Apparently an engine problem. Fuelling staff at ASP Airport said a bucket of fuel drained from the engine looked like metallic paint!
